Thrice as Nice

(sugar and spice and everything badass)^3

I can’t believe this was only 2 years ago. It really does fly. Everyone tells you it flies, and you sort of nod your head and roll your eyes…but jeez.

I remember those shoes that Hypatia is wearing. I wish I had photographed them. They were adorable.

Hypatia looks more like Pig-Pen than Charlie Brown.

I love the way my daughters insist I stop everything I’m doing to admire their muscles.

May they always feel powerful and proud of their strength.

John Thomson: Chinese Women, 1869-72.

John Thomson (1837-1921) was a pioneering Scottish photographer who, after traveling through various parts of Asia, settled in Hong Kong in 1868 and operated a studio there for the next four years. Using Hong Kong as his base, he traveled extensively throughout China and was the first known photographer to document the people and landscapes of China for publication in the western market. Returning to England, he published a four volume book entitled “Illustrations of China and its People” in London, 1873-1874.

I’m forever a sucker for baby wearing.

I made some lugaw/arroz caldo/congee the other day. I prefer lugaw or arroz caldo, but I think it’s more widely known as congee.

I recently discovered that lugaw is what it is called when it is prepared very plain. Arroz caldo is what you call it when it’s all…fancied up with little additions. I like mine with green onion, hard boiled egg, some soy sauce, a squeeze of lemon…AND FRIED GARLIC. Unfortunately, even though I totally went to the Filipino store today, I forgot to pick up some fried garlic. It’s also served with a side of fried tofu marinated in soy sauce and vinegar, but I forgot to pick up some fried tofu, too. Laaaame.

This is the ultimate comfort food. My mom would make it for me whenever I was sick. There’s onion, ginger, chicken, water and rice. You can salt it with—lol—salt, but I prefer fish sauce. It’s so gentle on your tummy, and the ginger helps ease nausea.

Went shopping with Lotus. It’s always nice to spend one-on-one time with her. I love this coconut water. It’s the best I’ve ever had. Tastes like it does straight out of the coconut, except chilled.

I’ve been having some tummy trouble, so I bought Kombucha, too. Guava Goddess and Mystic Mango. Yum.

I got the girls these cute little single serving scoopers for ice cream. Very handy, and it minimizes mess/dishes. You use it to scoop and serve!

We went to the Filipino store and grabbed some avocado and ube ice cream. Yummmmmmm. I discovered that the Filipino grocery store is just one street over from the Filipino restaurant…AND there’s Armenian restaurant across the street from the grocery store.

I posted earlier that my youngest was fearless, but I found this photo this morning and remembered that she was once afraid of butterflies.
This was taken in an enclosed pavilion full of butterflies. Those two kids are gawking at her because she was crying and yelling about the yellow butterfly to her right.
Yes, she lost her flipflop in an attempt to run away from a butterfly.

This is terrible, but I just find it so hilarious how miserable Daphne looks about having to wait her turn.

This was last year in the fall, hence the pants and tights and boots.
